How does EMDR work?
EMDR works on the premise that when we experience a traumatic event, we have a combination of three things that are stored within us. This blog gives you a quick overview of how it works and how it might be a choice for your therapy process.
Why Are You Not Looking Forward to Fall?
The summer has flown by. You wanted all those relaxing, bucket-filling things because the Fall is hard for you. It’s strange and a bit disheartening because everyone you know loves Fall.
This can leave you wondering why you might not be looking forward to the Fall. Yet the Fall can be triggering for some people.
What is Big “T” and little ”t” Trauma?
The word trauma often causes people to think that we only deal with the really big stuff, so you might think that what you’re dealing with isn’t really big enough to go to counselling with. And yet nothing could be further from the truth.

Is EMDR therapy for you? Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is one approach to doing counselling that was developed about 30 years ago as a way of helping you process traumatic experiences or memories. EMDR is evidence-based and proven to be very effective in helping people find help dealing with anxiety, panic attacks, disturbing memories, performance anxiety, sexual and/or physical abuse, complicated grief and stress.
What are the fight, flight, freeze and fawn responses to trauma?
You’ve likely heard the terms trauma, trauma-informed, PTSD and trauma responses. The words fight, flight or freeze are used a lot in our culture to describe how we respond to different traumatic events. Learn how they might play out in your life or the life of a friend who has survived a traumatic event(s).
What does trauma look like?
As a hairstylist, you hear a lot of stories about your clients’ lives. We want to help you help your clients, and to be able to recognize when something they’re talking about might need more help than you are able to provide. This article speaks to what trauma is and how you might understand it.
Concussions and Depression
Depression and concussion have much in common and can certainly co-occur; they are also both valid struggles for which you can access support and treatment. Alongside your doctor, and other rehabilitation specialists, like occupational therapists and counsellors, you can build a plan that works for you in your recovery journey.
